Attack Of The Earworms!
No, these are not at all like brain squirrels. At one point or another, we’ve all suffered from earworms. This is the one currently stuck inside my head and I have the Pitch to blame for it. Had I not been reviewing their site recently – specifically the Wayward Blog, I don’t think I would have thought to look up former Something Corporate frontman Andrew McMahon’s relatively new group Jack’s Mannequin (they don’t get a very good review). After hearing this, I have since learned how to play it on guitar in the hopes that I can now let it go. No such luck – it’s too damn catchy. Perhaps posting it here will do the trick.
What’s stuck in your head currently? Link it in the comments if you like.

My earworms (I LOVE that!) are usually from the CD I’ve been playing in the car. I have a habit of letting it play five or six times before bothering to switch it out for a new one. This week it’s been Sondheim’s Assassins and the Velvet Underground. Added to the mix: Sweeney Todd (more Sondheim!) from watching the movie multiple times, and arias from the opera I just stage-managed, Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. The ensemble sections don’t seem to stick. Nor do I ever have a solely instrumental earworm. My earworms always sing.
Sometimes I can ask them to play something else, and they comply for a while. They kindly quiet down when I’m watching or listening to something else, but they’re often present during conversations. And definitely right now, but I can’t find a link:
Added links for you Josh… perhaps one of those will help dislodge Jack.
